Law of succession is one of the few laws in India, that is governed by its personal laws. There are three laws mainly governing inheritance and succession – The Indian Succession Act 1925, the Hindu Succession Act (amed.) 2005 and Mohammedan laws of inheritance. The scope of the these laws are to lay down the process of inheritance of movable and immovable assets, when a person dies intestate.
The object of Act was to consolidate provisions relating to the registration of Title Agreements, Deeds and other Documents. Section 17 of the Act throws light on the nature of documents that need to be compulsorily registered under the law.
